Upgrade to Wordpress 2.1? Forget about it!
January 25th, 2007 by Andrew Chen
I originally wanted to upgrade to Wordpress to 2.1. After I try it on my development laptop I changed my mind. Wordpress 2.1 is just way too buggy to use. I notice two of its new features were not working right away after I did the upgrade on my local machine. First, the spell checker always return message saying “Could not execute AJAX call, server didn’t return valid a xml”.
Secondly the uploading manager doesn’t work well with the images existing before the upgrade. It doesn’t display their thumbnails. And the interface doesn’t look nice. The description box doesn’t fit in the display area.
Thirdly in the presentation tab you can not update the theme files. Whatever changes you make they will disappear after you click update. It just returns to the original.
Fourth, the theme editor doesn’t recognize template file correctly. It doesn’t work well with mistylook theme. If your site installed a lot of plugins changes are many of them may not be working after upgrading. I suspect “subscribe comments” is just one of them. Imagine what kind of headache you will go through if you want to test all of the plugins.
So upgrade to Wordpress 2.1? Forget about it!

It’s unfortunate for you. I’ve heard many great things about WP 2.1
I haven’t gotten around to installing it but I’m sure I’ll be able to fix/get around any of the problems that may come up myself. Also, they stated that there are going to be some plugins that do not work with 2.1, did you check that out?
I don’t think I have that kind of time to try every single plugin I have installed on my site. I would rather wait till many of the bugs get fixed and then I will upgrade it. I am sure there are other people experience the same problems.
This is my first post
