New Info on Solving The Mystery of Blog Traffic
May 16th, 2008 by Andrew Chen
In my previous post I blame WordPress upgrade for the down turn of search engine traffic. Now it seems to me may not be the case at all.
Because there were some problems on Google’s web traffic tracking. The following is what Google posted in Google Analytics
Google Analytics experienced
a data processing error from April 30th to May 5th. Almost all of the data has been recovered and is currently being reprocessed. The recovered data will be reflected in your reports within a few days. Please note that a small percentage of data, particularly in the area of e-commerce reporting, was not recoverable from those dates.
We sincerely apologize for this processing issue and are taking every precaution to prevent such disruptions from occurring again in the future. For more information, please read through our common questions.

So that means the traffic statistics that Google report for May is not going to be accurate since small part of the lost data is not able to be recovered and we are not sure whether the small percentage is equal for every site. That make me suspect the same thing could happen on the second half of April when I notice an obvious traffic down turn. So it is hard to say now.
Hopefully there is only traffic data lost. If there is click data lost then there may be real money involved. I notice my Blog revenue was also down after the upgrade. What caused that seems to be remained as Mystery for now. It may be just a normal seasonal traffic and revenue fluctuation. Only time can tell.
