I mentioned in my previous post “MySQL Bugs” that I observed a bug in its NT version 5.0.41.

The bug limited the number of concurrent connections to MySQL server to a very small number between 15 to 60 depending on innodb_buffer_pool_size. When you try to open additional connection to MySQL server you will get message, “Errno 12 Out of Memory”. Today MySQL support send me email that the bug has been fixed:

bug #20815 affecting this issue has now been closed and the root cause of the ‘Error 12 Out of Memory’ messages you encountered has been patched and tested in 5.0 (current 5.0.54) and 5.1 (current 5.1.22 RC) trees.

If you choose to upgrade MySQL in the future there should be no problem increasing your max-connections variable again, however do ensure it remains realistic for other per client thread memory usage.

I’ll leave this issue open for a short while before closing, in case you wish to follow up.

Talking about MySQL, I heard it is on its way to go public. MySQL is a very valuable database application and it is very popular in internet companies. I believe it will be another Internet Super Star.
