Look Here if None of The Permalink Solutions is Working For You
January 13th, 2007 by Andrew Chen
I didn’t make a post for the past week because I experienced trouble when I moved my production site to my local machine. I found none of the permalink solutions addressed here was working on my local machine. The Wordpress article said the permalink format
"/index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/"
was able to work on windows IIS but it was not working for me. When I was using this format I got the following screen.

My local machine is running window 2003 and IIS6. I have followed the PHP configuration manual to configure PHP and it was working fine. I have spend all the nights for the pass week to dig around on the internet to find a solution but no one clearly explained why it showed that screen. It was the “page cannot be found 404 screen” but windows default 404 screen is not like that. It is like the following one:

So I was lost. I found a lot of posts talked
Only when the problem of “no input file specified” is fixed can you use the other permalink solutions, like ISAPI or 404 redirect. I choosed this one.
I spend a lot time digging around mainly because I didn’t know it was a “no input file specified” problem. IE7 didn’t tell you this. I am not sure about IE6. I got the feeling that people use PHP tends to use Firefox instead of if IE. Another thing is that if PHP doesn’t need doc_root to function correctly then why the manual tell us to set it up. It seems doesn’t make sense. Anyway if you find this post helps then let me know.
