I haven’t look at what is out there in the Job market for a while and really don’t have an idea of what is the popular skill the IT market is looking for. One day I received an email from a friend letting me know there were opening software developer positions in a very good company - Panasonic Avionics Corporation. Here is the description of the position.

Summary Of Position:

Develop web interface for embedded web browser. Tasks include writing HTML javascript based applications driving graphical interface. Tasks will also involve writing database queries and PHP queries. Typical tasks include coding, testing, technical documentation and releasing software

Qualifications Required:

  • 5 10 years of AJAX experience
  • 5 10 years of LAMP experience
  • 3 5 years of Photo Shop experience
  • 1 5 years of Flash experience
  • BS in computer science or equivalent
  • I was looking at the qualifications and wonder what LAMP

was about. Panasonic is certainly not a company that makes lamp. So I told my friend I don’t have LAMP experience. I thought it was some kind of development tool. Later I found that LAMP refers to Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. You know what if you are self hosting a wordpress blog then you may already have some experience on LAMP. LAMP is the most popular web platform because they are all opensource and free.

If you are coming from the Windows world and would like to learn something about LAMP you can actually get them all running on Windows. You can get Cygwin to create a Linus like environment on Windows. You can get apache web server from apache.org. You can get MySQL database from MySQL.com and you can get PHP from php.net.

So get a free LAMP to light up your Windows.
