Blog Income Estimation
December 27th, 2007 by Andrew Chen
Over the course of blogging and learning how to monetize a web site I found a rule of thumb to estimate a blog’s potential income. The monthly income of a blog can be estimated from the number of FeedBurner readers. Most blogs use FeedBurner’s service and they will have the number displayed. My blog also use FeedBurner service. The number of Feed reader is displayed at the bottom of the side bar.
The monthly income of a blog can be estimated as the number of feed reader multiplied by a factor between 1 and 2. The factor can vary depending on the design of the web site and the advertising network it uses. For example John Chow’s blog Johnchow.com has a lot of monetizing feature, like the banners, the money links (ads) and paid per post. Its factor should be at the high end. If we use 1.8, its monthly blog income is estimated as 14,000 X 1.8 = 25,200. It is about the income he reported.
From there you can pretty much know how much I can make on siusic.com. I have an average of 10 feed readers.
Very little isn’t it? Well I hope this number can grow and you can check back once a while to see whether it really grows.
Another blog TechCrunch.com has 610,000 readers averagely. Its design is similar to John Chow’s. I actually believe John Chow learn the design from TechCrunch. So how much TechCrunch can make in a month? 610,000 X 1.8 = 1,170,000. Its blog income is over one million a month. Amazing isn’t it?
