A New Post in a Long While

I didn’t write any post for a long while. I was too busy with other things like taking care of my son and learning some new technologies to prepare myself for the future. I am not planning something big but just to get prepare in case I need to look for another job. Well I am not saying the company I am working for is not doing well. In fact Local.com is doing really good lately. Just on Last Friday its stock price jumped 75% because Local.com was awarded some kind of local search patent. I guess this Yahoo News really help.
It caused real excitements in the company. Everybody was talking about the stock price, the patent and the mastermind who developed the patented technology. I wish what the Yahoo News said was true. If that is the case then everyone of the sixty employees working for local.com will be rich including me. Sometimes what kind of company you work for really affects your well being. Imagine if you are working for Google, Youtube or Broadcom? I heard a friend’s friend joined Youtube right before Google buyout Youtube for 1.6 billion and honnered every Youtube employee’s stock options. He was like winning a supper lotto. Getting a good education does not necessary mean that you will be well off than someone doesn’t get one. But getting in a good company does. Of course getting a good education may help you getting into a good company.

I would like make better my SQL capabilities.
I red that many SQL resources and would like to
read more about SQL for my occupation as db2 database manager.
What would you recommend?

There are plenty of SQL resources out there. I remember I got into SQL server starting on a Wrox book. You will find plenty of books on SQL server in Barnes & Noble. SQL server installation comes with an online book which is an extensive documentation on SQL server. It is very helpful. If you can install a development version of SQL server and practice what you read on books that will be helpful either.
DB2 is also a popular database. There are a lot of demands out there in the job market. But I found it is hard to find the software to practice on. Do you have any recommendation to me?
It is funny when I look at this post which I wrote last year. I have left local.com. All the excitement I have then was gone. Local.com’s stock is trading below $2 right now. Maybe time to get in. Hope it is going to do well.
